Barenboim / Smetana / My homeland

Conductor Daniel Barenboim, Vienna Philharmonic and Staatskapelle Berlin agreed to allow cameras from the very first rehearsal of Bedrich Smetana’s emblematic cycle Má Vlast (My Homeland). Giving a personal insight into the work of one of today’s greatest conductors.
The opening of the Prague Spring Music Festival 2017 was really special. The Vienna Philharmonic, regarded by many as one of the world’s best orchestras, and conductor Daniel Barenboim at its helm performed the six symphonic poems by the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana. The preparations for this unique, truly historic event have been captured in this film. The cameras follow Barenboim’s thoroughness with the orchestras in Berlin and Vienna, their European tour.
